October, November, December 1996
TX101 -- TX101 spent the latter part of October north of the L-28 feeder canal but returned south within a couple of weeks. her first litter of kittens apparently has dispersed. She was recollared on 17 December. On 21 December a den was located and two kittens (1 male, 1 female) were handled and transponders inserted.

TX103 -- TX103 remained within her home range in Big Cypress National Preserve during October, November, and December, making normal movements and kills but showing no sign of denning. She was observed two times from the airplane and judged to be in good condition.

TX104 -- TX104 divided her time primarily between the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve (FFSP), Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge (FPHWR), and the Belle Meade areas. However, she has spent the entire month of December in the lower Belle Meade. She was located with female Florida panther #32 on two occasions in the rock island area of FPNWR on 22 and 29 November.

TX105 -- This female cougar continued to utilize the pinelands and hardwood hammocks of Long Pine Key west of the Beard Center in Everglades National Park. she has remained mostly within a 4-mile radius of her original den site indicating that she still has her kitten. The female kitten is about 4 months old and should be able to make short movements with her. We continue to see many deer in this area so TX105 should have little trouble finding prey. TX105 and male panther #16 were located at opposite ends of the same hammock on November 4. We have not located them together since that date. Panther #16 has been making larger movements as water levels have receded in this area of the Park. His home range covers both ranges of TX105 and TX108 as well as areas north to Chekika and as far south as Mahogany Hammock.

TX106 -- TX106 primarily utilized the western portion of FSSP with occasional movements into the Picayune Strand State Forest (PSSP). She was documented with her kitten on 7 November. Her collar was replaced on 18 December. The kitten was not with her at that time and may have dispersed.

TX107 -- TX107 remained in her home range in Big Cypress National Preserve during October. She was located with panther #55 on three occasions between October 9 and 14. TX107 ranged from Raccoon Point to Austin's old homesite during November. She remained within her home range during December, ranging from the Little Deer-Calusa Ranch area west to Austin's old camp.

TX108 -- This cougar continued to use the hammocks and pinelands of Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park as well as areas to the north. She travels further than TX105 and crosses the main Park road frequently to use the scattered hammocks and prairies to the north. We confirmed that she has at least one kitten on December 2. We observed her and a single kitten from the airplane as they walked near a small hammock north of the main Park road. We observed her and a single kitten again on December 23 as they moved through a prairie west of the Beard Center. The kitten appears to be 1/2 her size and should be approximately 6 months old. She returned to the area north of the main Park road on December 30.
