September 1995
TX101 -- TX101 has continued to use the area around McDaniels Ranch and the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation. She was located south of the L-28 west feeder canal on 18 September and began to restrict her movements to this area of the Reservation, a pattern suggestive of denning. Confirmation of the apparent denning activity will be made during October.

TX102 -- This female continued using an area from McDaniels Ranch to the east and west to Rocky Lake. A mortality signal detected during a routine flight on 22 September led researchers to her carcass in a canal along CR 833 just north of CR 846. She was apparently struck and killed by a vehicle between 20-21 September. A necropsy will be performed in October.

TX103 -- TX103 continues to use an area in Big Cypress National Preserve south of Highway 41 between Turner River and Monroe Station. She was located on the west side of the Turner River canal on two flights. She swam back to the east side of the canal and began moving eastward at the end of the month.

TX104 -- TX104 has remained in the Belle Meade area except for two flights when she moved southeast into the Picayune Strand State Forest. She has since returned to the area she normally uses in the Belle Meade area.

TX105 -- This female spent all of September using the higher drier pinelands and hardwood hammocks of Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park. She was located with male panther #16 on 11 and 15 September. Panther #16 has remained on Long Pine Key for most of September.

TX106 -- TX106 began the month near Broken Wing Ranch but soon moved into the adjacent Picayune Strand State Forest. She returned to the area of Broken Wing Ranch for one flight but has spent most of the month in this new State Forest.

TX107 -- This cougar remained in the Calusa Ranch area of Big Cypress National Preserve for the first three weeks of September. She then made a loop to the east and south before returning to the Calusa Ranch area at the end of the month.

TX108 -- TX108 continued using the Long Pine Key and Hole-in-the-Donut area of Everglades National Park. Male panther #16 frequents the same area but has not been located with TX108. High water and high temperatures appear to be restricting movements to the relatively high ground of Long Pine Key and surrounding areas.
